“My work with Rebecca has been profound. During the last few weeks of my pregnancy, I walked into one appointment limping from back pain. The baby was bunched up on one side and in a strange position. My treatment that day helped my back and my hips immediately. That night, the baby moved around all during the night. The entire next week, I wasn’t in pain, and when I went to my next appointment, my uterus was is good alignment, with baby head down. I really attribute that to the work Rebecca did that day, releasing muscles and helping create space for the baby. Beyond that, my work with Rebecca helps remind me of the sacred and miraculous process that birthing is, helps me connect with my baby and my body in deeper ways, and helps me feel grounded and held.”

“Thank you so much for your care on my pregnancy journey. You gave me such relief that was so greatly needed and gave me hope for making it to the end of the journey in a happy healthy place. You also helped restore my confidence in my ability to carry and deliver that beautiful baby! The care you extended was deeply felt, much needed and truly appreciated.”
I’m pregnant – can I receive Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT)?
Traditionally, Mayan midwives give abdominal massage as part of their routine care for pregnant women. ATMAT is very supportive of the physical changes experienced by women during their pregnancy. Abdominal Therapy can be safely received throughout pregnancy – as your uterus grows, the ligaments of the uterus stretch and pelvic floor muscles are put under greater tension. The techniques of ATMAT are altered depending on what is currently happening in your body to optimally align your uterus within your pelvic bowl and decrease tension and strain. The bones of the lower back and pelvis are also aligned to insure good blood supply to the fetus, improved nerve supply to the uterus, proper fetal positioning for delivery and a more comfortable pregnancy and labor.
Regular monthly MAT treatments during pregnancy can help prevent or treat the following:
- Morning sickness
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Abnormally frequent urination
- Weak tingling legs
- Ligament pain & discomfort
- Pain while sitting
- Low back pain
- Varicose veins
- Breech presentation
As part of your ATMAT treatment during pregnancy, you are taught how to do a special self-care massage which helps deepen your connection to your body and growing baby. The massage helps you to relax and empowers you to alleviate your symptoms and improve your uterine strength and resiliency with your own two hands.
Not only do women receiving ATMAT regularly throughout pregnancy have less of the discomforts common to pregnancy mentioned above, ATMAT practitioners report that their clients have quicker and easier labors. ATMAT labor preparation treatments begin at 36 weeks. Weekly treatments during the last few weeks of pregnancy encourage ideal alignment of the baby’s position and the mother’s pelvis improving the likelihood of an uncomplicated delivery.
Blessing the Doorway/Birth Preparation
“When I encountered the most vulnerable and life-altering phase of my life, Dr. Cohen helped me navigate my way through pregnancy with respect, compassion, and trust in my body. I will forever remember the love on her face as she cared for me and supported me through that process. She was absolutely vital to my physical and emotional success, and I give her my highest level of recommendation and gratitude!!!”
Blessing the Doorway- Holistic Birth Preparation is a journey done in your eighth month of pregnancy that you can take on your own or with loved ones or members of your birth team present. It combines gentle hands externally with meditation and visualization techniques to prepare your body and spirit to give birth. Together we create the space for deep presence, connection and ease, gently releasing any blocks that may arise. You can return to these meditations and newfound awareness as you approach labor or during labor as needed. This can be especially helpful when planning for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) or when previous birth trauma is present.

Taking the time to nourish and heal the body allows you to move into your role as mother in a balanced, healthy way. Caring for your own well-being is essential to replenish your energy in order to care for your growing family.
I offer nurturing care in the comfort of your own home during the first 2 weeks following the birth of your child allowing you to protect and honor the sanctity of your postpartum bond while receiving the nurturing care you deserve. Our time together is specialized for your needs and includes gentle abdominal massage to encourage proper alignment of the uterus, a vaginal steam bath to help heal sensitive tissues, and breastfeeding support.
Arvigo® Techniques Postpartum
ATMAT home visits can be initiated within 3 days postpartum. Home visits include nourishing vaginal herbal steams that warm the uterus encouraging any remaining contents of the womb to exit and healing the sensitive tissues of the birth passage. The uterus will be assessed and a brief abdominal massage given.
In-office treatments can be resumed 2-6 weeks after birth in order to realign the pelvis, encourage better uterine position, and to help heal tears, scars and hemorrhoids.
Holistic Pelvic Care Postpartum
Did you know that in France and other countries around the world, pelvic rehabilitation after pregnancy is considered a routine part of postnatal care? Read an amusing article about it written by an American woman who gave birth in France here. Postpartum pelvic floor care is an essential part of women’s health-care which decreases pelvic floor difficulties including incontinence, pelvic pain and prolapse later in life.
As early as six weeks postpartum, I offer a treatment designed for new mothers to revitalize the root after the birth of your baby. This helps to resolve post-partum symptoms such as pelvic pain, discomfort, or muscle weakness and greatly assists overall healing. Women who have experienced trauma during childbirth find that restoring pelvic balance aids their recovery. Women who have experienced cesarean sections can benefit from nourishing their bodies following a prolonged vaginal birth attempt, assistance with fascial release following cesarean scarring or may need help to complete the birth process. Honor yourself and your body by taking this step to wellness so that you may begin your journey to mothering from your center.
